Hi all!
Once again, trying my hand at a shorter blog post so it doesn't take me too long to finish. Today's prompt is simple - take a look at what's left of my 2023 wish list and upcoming commitments for Breyer.
REGULAR RUNS 2023
Mixer Appaloosa
Highlander (Holiday)
Mojave
2023 Carousel Ornament
Possibly Norwich the Hackney pony (but he is not yet available anyway so he may bleed into 2024 even if I had an opportunity to get him)
OTHER RECENT- still current - RR
Welsh Mare & Foal from 2022
SPECIAL RUNS - NON-DIRECT
Applegate FFA Flash (TSC) - though I have a lead on one of these if I can't find one myself
WEB EXCLUSIVE, NON-CLUB
Tinsel, Holiday Play set Fjord
CLUB MODELS
CC Web Special - Sparrow
CC Gambler Classic - Santino in Chestnut Appaloosa
CC Appreciation Glossies - MorganQuest Native Sun & Adiah HP (If these glossies are used again, I do like them, I sat out the spring one because of how close it was to BreyerFest. If there's not another event this month and/or they are not re-used, I probably won't pursue them otherwise.)
VC Classic - Secretariat
VC Optional - Tuxedo
VC SM - Anton
Breyer Volunteer Model - Chevaliere in Roan and Bay
Overall, this isn't too bad! I generally do not aim to get all of the SR I want in the same year they're released, I am not to that point of being able to afford that (especially in years when that's including the higher end ones!). I have been trying in recent years to keep up with the RR and the "common SR" (aka TSC), so those I will pursue if I don't get them myself or as gifts by the end of the year.
As I mentioned with the glossies, models do not always stay on my wish list past their release year. I often add some that I am on the fence about but feel like I may like them more at some point. If I am not as interested in them by a year or two later, I might just drop them from being a priority to add to my collection. There's plenty of older models I still love and unless I have a good opportunity to buy something (such as with my flea market adventures or local swap meets), I'm preferring to stick to my list.
Once I am at the point where I can easily afford all the new RR I want in a single year, plus any of the more common ones like TSC, BreyerFest SR/LE, Club or web exclusives that aren't lottery etc, I want to make more of an effort to go back to older runs and keep adding those as I can afford them. Currently, my major efforts in this category are focused on 2000-2012 RR that I missed when they came out because of being a kid through my early college days, even though I was collecting by that time. As well as rounding out my G2 Stablemate congas of everything but the super-rares. I am doing pretty well on both of those, and probably in the next couple of years I hope to add another specific category to hunt for. That will probably be RR or otherwise easier to find runs from the 90's and earlier, or maybe somewhat common modern SR. The more of these I can tick off the list, the closer I'll be to focusing on only saving up for rarer items outside of keeping up with what is new. Of course, I also have to get to a point where I can reasonably display/store everything better as well, so even if my buying power increases in the near future, the quantity of models can't increase at the same rate with the space I have to work with now.
My wish list may be quite restricted compared to how many models Breyer has made over the years, but it still exceeds the space I have for them!
WHAT'S NEXT IN 2023
I have a few more solid and potential commitments outside of the RR/SR I hope to acquire from the wish list above!
- Stablemate Club final edition Brio (new sculpt) + optional model Nero (probably coming next week o the week after?)
- Premier Club renewal *possibly* (I do like the mare and foal previewed, but I want some clearer hints on the breeds/sculptors for the other 2 releases before I commit. I literally joined a couple hours before midnight for 2023 based on the draft foal sneak peek photo, I hope it's not down to the wire again but we'll see! I did already renew Deluxe CC and SMC for 2024.)
- Possible CCA Event for December? Maybe next week during WinterFest as a club perk?? I'd hope to grab Mojave, Welsh Mare and Foal, maybe the Mixer App and ornament if so (but I'd be scared of Mojave selling out lol)
- Christmas Day Gambler (that will depend on mold on if the red glitter sneak peek in the November newsletter is connected to this or not. We now know that's a Kathleen Moody mold, so that could go either way for me and will definitely be influenced by color. I'll probably still buy whatever it is though, even if it's not something I'm a fan of, so I can trade for another Spice Drop color.)
REALLY QUICK OPINION TIME!
Going through the list of Moody molds, here are my thoughts on them if they are the Xmas morning special:
ASB Stallion - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
Andalusian Stallion - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
Arabian Mare - She's not a favorite of mine, but they might be able to get me if it's that red glitter color. Especially if the glitter is holographic (she'd be way more affordable than the Teke from BF 21). And especially if it's a head-up version without the yucky double shoulder.
Big Ben - Yes or no depends on color, I'm kind of neutral on the mold. There's only a couple on my wish list and the only one I have now is the original from my carpet herd.
BGB - Technically a Moody mold, she's a collab with Sommer Prosser, but she might count enough. I do like the mold so depends on color.
Bouncer - Was already the Christmas Day model
Esprit - Also kind of neutral on this one but a good color option would get me
Ethereal - I would try to get one of these for my mom because she collects Ethereal
Fell Pony - Depends on color but she is cute. (Personally, this is the mold I think it will be based on past trends...maybe not the Coal as well, but the main one certainly)
Gem Twist - Neutral on mold, depends on color
Goffert - Neutral on mold, depends on color
Brishen/Laredo - Brishen possibly yes depends on color, Laredo absolutely not, I'd only buy to trade (unless Holo)
Huck - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
Icelandic - Was already the Christmas Day model
Kennebec Count - Would only buy to trade unless color is Holo
Marabella - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
MFT - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
Nokota - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
Othello - Was already the Christmas Day model
Rain - Neutral on mold, depends on color
Silver - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
Susecion - Yes or no depends on color, I like the mold
So really, these are mostly decent options from my perspective. Only 3 that would be automatic trades unless they involve holographic paint. Everything else is up to color on whether I'd keep it or not as I think the rest of these molds are fine.
Okay, time to get going on the rest of my day! Thanks for stopping by!
