It's Officially Prep Month (Tomorrow)!

 Hi everyone,

Today is May 31st, 2023, which means tomorrow marks one month until BREYERFEST MONTH!

Honestly, May went by so FAST, I've accomplished a lot of prep so far, but there's still plenty to do before I leave in July. We've had a few more reveals recently, including some upcoming Regular Runs, a few more Breyerfest models, and springtime releases.

An overview:

Springtime releases this year are a lovely glossy blue Appaloosa with black points Show Jumper named Washington as the Spring Deco/Patriotic model for the year, and a re-release of the Emma Fell Pony in a commemorative box and purple sash in memory of Queen Elizabeth.

Washington is so nice!

Upcoming reveals/leaks for the Regular Run Mid-years include a pretty roan sabino Strapless (portrait model) and a sorrel pinto Fireheart.

BreyerFest reveals brought us confirmation of Forever Saige in Chestnut as the BCC top prize model, and revealed the runner up Stablemate as the SMC Darley mold & pattern in the same bright chestnut color as Saige. We've also recently seen the Reserve Grand Champion prize for BreyerFest Live, a minimal overo Big Ben in a rich dark liver chestnut. The newest teaser pic for BreyerFest shows a rectangle of dapple palomino, without too many notable features of which body part it could be or any indication of mold. This is believed to be the Grand Champion prize for BFL, assuming we will see the reveal this week. Reveals still to come include the Raffles, BFL Glossies, and the Auction lineup (though that I'm not expecting until the final 1-2 weeks prior to the event per usual).

I like this color - I can't wait to see who they use it on for the next 3 years as well if the 4 year per base color trend continues!

As far as the clubs, Stablemate Sidewinder was late, released in May rather than April. Shelby, the Nokota who was teased after April Fools, was released after a long wait. Breyer definitely made a TON of these in anticipation of collector demand from previous CC runs in the last few years. Each CC member is still only allowed one, but he hasn't sold out yet. Most folks have been pleased to get the color(s) they wanted, or have had an easy time trading. I'd guess we may see some of these extras in the Breyer Store and/or in grab bags, either that or they will eventually open access to the public. Recently, we've also seen the Web Special Sparrow and a sneak peek at what I'm guessing is likely the Classic scale gamblers choice. I'm going with guessing the Classic Love Mustang Mare! The rough texture in the peek indicates an older mold, her shoulder has deep enough grooves, and she hasn't been seen yet since the Love molds started appearing again in 2014.

I got my favorite Shelby - the grullo appy!

The Vintage Club was surprised with a Classic scale split run - Man O War as Secretariat in Glossy Shaded Chestnut (950 pcs) or for lucky club members, a Gold Charm version (50 pcs). The re-sale market has been difficult, as most people feel like it's tough to justify the base price for the run of 950, but of course the gold ones are doing very well for anyone who chose to sell. I share the sentiment of many folks that this could have been an 800/200 split and the golds still would have felt special and sold well, and the chestnuts would be slightly more exclusive.

Vintage Club and Premier Club letters have gone out - some folks are still missing theirs, from what I've heard. The VC is still due the Rustler Fury music box that was the poster model for the club, but they will also be seeing a "feisty gambler's choice", a "black tie affair", and the SM is a Lippizan in Alabaster - the box for that will be a miniature version of the 1970's Classic Lippizan box. Jury is mixed on whether the mold is meant to be Darwin, a new mold, or maybe a smaller version of the Classic Lippizan (personally I'm in the Darwin camp).

The Premier Club Cancion did not make an appearance in May (technically, he has one more day, but I feel it's very unlikely now), hopefully he'll arrive in June rather than July...or they'll wait until after BreyerFest to ship him. The PC letter did confirm that the sculpting artists have also designed their colors, which is exciting! The Stablemate for the club this year will be a shrunken Zafirah in one of the 2023 colorways. I personally think that Cancion's color is too close to Zafirah, so I'm guessing it will possibly be one of the Draft colors? The Appy color for the other mold (we don't know what breed type for certain) looks like it may be pretty intricate, but they might surprise us with that one. I hope that they based the mini off the original sculpt and created it in parallel with the Traditional, rather than scanning the Trad version...there may be hope to avoid some of the translation issues to plastic that the larger version experienced.

BreyerFest Prep Say What?

As much as I will stress over it every single day, so far things are going well to get ready for the trip. I'm basically done with the Live Show prep, I just need to grab some brushes and tools into the box, and print out some documentation (and make a card or two for the unrealistic/Collectibility entries). I decided to do all Stablemates except for 6 Classic Foals and 2 Traditional foals going into the same Collectibility Division class. This is scary but it's the first time I've felt like I have something worthwhile for that division, and they don't take up a huge amount of space. A virtual cookie to anyone who correctly guesses which foals those are 😂

We're still working on preparing inventory and completing orders for the Stable Snaps sale! I've now confirmed I'll be selling in two locations at the hotel (321 & 550), one of which I am also sleeping in so that is a huge bonus! Link here if you're interested in the sale details! Most of what I still need to do involves designing flyers, getting everything printed, etc.

I'm also generally working on things like planning outfits, making sure I don't need any personal supplies to buy before the trip, and generally engineering how I'll pack to be as small as possible a footprint going to the event. I am catching a ride with an awesome friend and her husband from where I'll be prior to the event, so I am trying to minimize my sprawl, haha. This will likely mean transporting most stuff in bags (except the BFL tote which is small anyway), because I can fit a bunch of other bags inside those bags in order to have enough space for the trip home.

Then There's Other Prep Too

Alongside BF prep, I also need to keep up with prep for my novice/intermediate live show August 5th, as I won't have a ton of time once I get home to finish everything. Details here if you're curious!

I am working on other projects as well:

  • Recording the Breyer Favorites on Each Mold Survey series results (currently on the 1960's Traditionals) which doesn't have a hard deadline, but I'd like to have those done sooner than last year, which I think was September.
  • Judging at a local show this weekend (and entering my <20 show string of CM minis)
  • I am MOH for my college best friend's wedding, and her dress shopping day is in June
  • Keeping track of my collection inventory spreadsheet and using it as a tool to plan my show string for late summer/fall shows ahead of TRXC in November
  • Other general pre-travel prep that doesn't specifically apply to BreyerFest
  • Making arrangements with a few friends for pre-BreyerFest things
I'll probably pop in with a final (or close to final) Surprise guess list, but other than that I may be too busy for a blog post again before the trip. We'll see!
