Each year, Breyer releases a new cohort of models for us to fall in love with, have some mild excitement about, or breathe a sigh of relief when some of them are not "must-haves". As many others do, I review every release and weigh it in my mind, considering points like:
- Is it a mold I conga? If not, how much do I like it?
- How much do I like the color?
- Is it reasonable to expect that I might be able to add this model anytime soon? (I am far pickier about the high end bunch)
That all being said, let's take a look at what's currently on my wish list, and why it made it!
Misty and Stormy were among my first Traditional Breyers, and I read most if not all of the books as a kid. I have wanted Phantom in model form for the longest time! I'm not sure yet if I'll add them myself or let my family pick them up as a gift. There is a slight concern about their selling out, since they are a single year edition and highly popular. We'll see!
So far, I've owned all of the Mixer QH's (including the glossy chestnut briefly before trading him). My BF's parents have gotten both of the previous ones for me as birthday gifts, so as long as they are still willing to do this, I'll hold off on buying him myself. I think this is my favorite color in this series so far!
I would be pleased to add this guy to my collection! So far, I only have the normal Ansel, it would be great to have one in a "typical" Morgan color too. He seems to be readily available, so he might be one of the ones left for relatives or the CC Appreciation at the end of the year.
Snowbird is also a really appealing color on this mold, and I like the costume too. Hopefully I won't have too much of an issue securing one for myself or getting him as a gift.
I do not have an example of either mold yet, and black is always a nice baseline color to judge my opinions.
Cooper is very pretty! I am so picky about leopard appaloosas, so it is interesting that I did end up liking him. Like some of the following SR, he may likely be a "someday" goal rather than a "get this year" goal.
I think I like Cardinal enough to put him on the "get this someday" list. I'm sure he's quite unaffordable at this point, since I was not pulled.
Mini Georg looks SUPER cute! I know he will likely not be available until next year anyway, but I'm still very much looking forward to his full color reveal.
Tiny Ashquar Unicorn will be a must have when the holiday line is available! I have added this series to my collection every year except 2020 I think? The one that was adapted from the Gallery Elvis's horse mold.
I'm really not sure about this one. I'd want it only for the pink TWH unicorn. Plus, this is a similar color to an existing clearware TWH that I already own.
I will not be including Stablemate Club, Deluxe Collector Club, or BreyerFest models that I've already paid for with VIP since I have committed to those.
I'm not the biggest fan of this design, but he is a must have for the conga. An Online Exclusive.
The only other BreyerFest horse I'm positive that I want is the Rhenish Draft (the other Online Exclusive). Oddly enough the different color hooves tend to bother me a lot, but on this guy the affect is more natural.
BreyerFest "Maybes" include:
I like these all roughly equally? I chose Stein and a Surprise with my VIP. I haven't decided if I want any additional All-Access tickets, and that's largely going to depend on if I end up going in person. If someone's picking up my VIP loot that's already a lot of stuff to grab. If I do get another ticket I'd go for a Surprise (likely, but if I'm in person I'll wait to see what it is before making that choice) otherwise I'd be happy with any of these. The only ones I do not care for at all are Brahms and Franz. As far as seeking out the ones I don't end up with, that will depend entirely on how they turn out in person.

Honestly, that is not too bad so far! I've been able to add most of the new Stablemates I'm interested in, as well as the Breyer Breeds series website exclusives. Hopefully the later rounds of releases (Spring, Mid-Year, Fall) won't add anything too crazy!
(Also really crossing my fingers than Breyer does not gloss Marc of Charm for the Live Show prizes...if they gloss him, I'd much rather it be for the CC Appreciation as I'd actually be able to afford one of those, or trade! As it is I'm already missing one Hamilton (the raffle) and I certainly cannot afford to spend $5k+ to get him now.)
How do you decide which new models you like enough to buy/trade for each year? :)
