Hi everyone!
Sorry it's been a while since my last post! It's been almost 2 weeks of flat out "go and get stuff done". The week of the 16th was spent on my final prep for my first live show in at least a year and a half, Central Connecticut Collectibility Classic (or C4 as it's known for short)! I judged Novice Collectibility, and mainly showed in TR/CL Breyer and Mini Breyer, but also dabbled in Stone, Hartland, and China during the day. While I did meet one of my goals of not missing any classes (hyperfocusing at shows is one of my "ADHD superpowers"), I also know that I pushed myself too hard. I'm super grateful to my mom for putting up with my chaos all day and helping me stay on track!
My best of the day was definitely my black appy rocker! In her debut show, she took second in her class ("Vintage Flockies and other models with accessories"), and went on to take reserve champion in her section ("Vintage Breyer Collectibility") as well as picking up an overall Top 5 in the Breyer TR/CL Collectibility division!
Photo credit to my friend Kelly as I did not get to take many pictures during the show! My flockie won a certificate and a pouch for the sectional champ/reserve, and just a certificate for the Top 5.
Another highlight of my day was winning third place in the "Go Big or Go Home" conga class! I brought all of my G2 Stock horses (and borrowed the one that I'm missing from a friend) and lined them up mostly in order of oldest to newest (I was rushing and missed one, by the time I realized he wasn't where he was supposed to be, I had arranged almost all the others, so he got stuck at the end). I took a couple of the spice rack shelves I got at Walmart last month and taped holographic paper to them, and did a write-up explaining my connection to the mold and some highlights about its history.
Thanks to my friend Jen for grabbing this picture! Again, I think I only took 4 photos the whole day, two of which are the next two in this post.
I was also very impressed with how my novice folks did! There were only 4 of them, but they didn't make my job easy (and I'm happy about that). One was entering a show for the first time- and she'll definitely be able to move up to Open going forward, as well as 3 people who are long time novices. Everyone moves at their own pace, and there are some people who may never be comfortable with the faster pace of Open, or whom may take longer to learn and that's totally ok! With such a small group though, I was able to give lots of personalized feedback and I think all of them did a great job!
Here are two of the 4 sectional callbacks I judged! Breyer Special Run on the left, and Regular Run on the right. There were also sections for Minis and Other Brands.
Overall, I'm sort of disappointed in how I did to some degree- I knew it wasn't going to be easy of course. But I thought I had set things up pretty well to earn more placings than I did, and I was pretty confident that I'd made some good picks for my classes. I'm not sure if it's more due to the way the classes were structured, or the sheer sizes of some of the classes perhaps. I also have never attended a purely collectibility show, so my estimations could have been a bit off. Of course, I am quite happy with the placings I did get, considering the tough competition! I think I'm just feeling a bit like I let myself down because of how much I entered and how much work I put into the prep for it.
I was able to trade my two extra Tassilis for a Sheila and a Chanel! Plus, I picked up my last two BreyerFest horses, Avant Garde and Primm (along with my mom's Prisma). I won a shelf/body quality matte alabaster PAF and a TINY 3D printed Hartland German Shepard (not pictured) so that was fun!
The Alborozo came from the blind bag that was in my goody bag from the show (everyone got a random blind bag)!
My mom got a new cabinet, and she had the chance to re-arrange her collection! I hadn't unpacked her Stone TWH from the show at the time of this picture, but other than that this is all of her models except her Ethereals, Silvers, pewter pieces, and Breyer Crystals.
I spent Sunday through Tuesday afternoon with some family a couple hours away, whom I hadn't seen in over a year and a half! It was nice to be able to celebrate my aunt and uncle's anniversary and see my cousins. And when I returned, Raider and friends had arrived! I had ordered Theo from an online dealer on the same day, but he's not here quite yet because of an issue with how the address was entered into UPS. I updated that last night and he's supposedly out for delivery today, so fingers crossed!
Raider's purple interference is very lovely and was quite unexpected! I got a good quality copy as well from my first impression, which is always a nice thing. His companions are adorable, too!
Anyway! I wanted to give an update on my last 2 weeks! I should get to unpacking more stuff from C4. Hopefully Theo will arrive today, and there will be more good news that I can share soon (waiting for some stuff to be official :D).
