Hello everyone! I hope you are well. This weekend, I'm getting a bit ansty waiting for my new BreyerFest purchases to arrive. I didn't score any Surprise models, but there is always the potential of a matte glossy split- will it be Peche Merle or Gran Cavallo? (I'm hoping for Gran Cavallo, since he ended up on my selection list, and I think he'd look rather lovely in gloss.) Or the possibility of a mane/tail combo switchup, which we've seen in the past two years. The most likely suspect for that is Tassili, since he has the alternate non-Marwari mane and tail (a look I'm not particularly fond of myself), though there is the remote chance of Breyer debuting a roached mane on Uffington, since one with this lack of hair sold in the Auction. I have 3 Tassili on their way to me, so fingers crossed if there is a mane/tail split that I don't somehow end up with 3 of the "puffy mane". I'll be staying off social media as of tomorrow until my boxes arrive, to hopefully have some surprises, even without the actual Surprise itself. And of course, there's my Volunteer (now known as Ambassador) model that will be a total surprise as well, it's just a matter of whether it will show up with my other items or not. If it doesn't, I might be off social media a bit longer to avoid spoilers for that one (though I will pop in and find out what the Surprise run is, I'm still half hoping it's something I don't like and half hoping it's something I do and I can find someone willing to trade for my extra Tassilis).
Anyway, I had some time today to pop over to the flea market in my hometown, which I haven't been to in probably a couple months? My mom and her BF had been over there in the morning and they saw Breyers, so I had to go look! Hooray, something actually worthwhile and not just overpriced stuff I don't need or can't resell!
I did not have either finish of the Alabaster FAF, and this girl was well priced for her condition ($9!) She is currently taking a UV bath in my new hand built UV box, which I'll have to make an entry on soon (maybe tomorrow, since I won't be scrolling through FB and IG anyway?) A bath definitely helped her case as well, to get some mild grime off.
The Stablemates set was a nice trip down memory lane, as my old copies of these guys were all etched back in high school when I was an enthusiatic teenager who wanted to try All the Art Things in the hobby. I did get a newer War Admiral in the last couple years, but I will definitely be checking to see if this one is nicer than my current example. I'm on the fence about keeping the other two so far. I don't heavily collect either of those molds, but they also both look a bit nicer than I remember my old copies being, pre-etching. I suppose it'll be nice to have someone to display with Raider, at least! The whole set was a good deal in my opinion, at $24 that came out to $8 per horse- not bad considering two are G1's and it's an older set to boot.
The Foal and the Stablemates came from two different booths, and there was a third booth with Breyers- two boxed 90's models (Rimrock and Pilgrim of The Horse Whisperer promotion) with heavily yellowed and falling apart boxes. I didn't look closely at the models, but they seemed to be ok from what I could tell. At $40 each, too steep for models I don't collect. I probably could have been convinced into Rimrock for a better price, he's one of the Adios models that floats on and off my wish list periodically over the years, but safe to say he's never been a big priority. San Domingo I'm much pickier about as a mold, and Pilgrim is not one of the ones I'd choose given the opportunity. The same booth also had a vintage Longhorn Bull for $35- in not awful condition, but not as nice as the example I found while antiquing on vacation earlier this month for the same price...and a decently nice Azteca on the Foundation Stallion mold for $40. He had some wear/issues, but he did have the white tail, which is less common for that run as far as I know (I don't collect that mold). I left those there, hopefully some other person will find them to be a better deal than I did.
While I'm here, and the FAF is featured, let me tell you about my current Family Arabians and those I hope to add someday!
The Family Arabians are among a handful of molds that mostly interest me only as vintage pieces, or as Vintage Club releases (or other modern vintage-throwback colorways). There's just something about the oldest colors that draws me to them!
So far, I own:
FAF - Matte & Glossy Appaloosa, Matte & Glossy Palomino, Glossy Alabaster
FAM - Matte & Glossy Palomino (and two example of the matte, one is a B stamp!), Matte Charcoal, Glossy(?) Appaloosa (I literally just re-arranged the other day, you'd think I'd remember which finish I own, haha!)
FAS - Matte & Glossy Bay (Gloss has eyewhites and came to me with a honey bay PAF!), Matte Charcoal, Glossy (pretty sure) Appaloosa, Woodgrain (missing a mold mark- he's a super early copy!)
My wish list! Super casual on these guys, I'm definitely more into seizing the opportunity if I come across them (like today!) rather than actively seeking them out.
FAF - Matte Alabaster, Both Bays, Both Charcoals, Woodgrain (and five gaiter sorrel or the Ford Pinto color if I should ever be so lucky! Maybe Black Congress as well)
FAM - Both Alabasters, Both Bays, Glossy Charcoal, whichever Appy I'm missing, Woodgrain, 5-G Sorrel, Black SR
FAS - Both Alabasters, Both Palominos, Glossy Charcoal, the other Appy I don't have, 5-G Sorrel, Black SR (maybe one of the Ali's just have have a representation? Perhaps Pippin he's kind of cool)
For whatever reason, the 80s and 90s releases on these molds just don't do anything for me, so I'm sticking to my vintage pieces and maybe some of the modern ones that appeal to me here and there.
That's all for tonight! Thanks for reading! Have a wonderful day or night, wherever and whenever you are reading this! :)
