The Queen Has Arrived!

Today is a wonderful, beautiful day! One of my biggest grails has arrived, again! If you've read some of my past posts, you'll know that the Saddlebred Weanling is my favorite Breyer mold. Earlier this year, I added two new rocking horses to my conga - the black appy and brown eyes/brown rocker chestnut. One trade and one purchase, they both joined my herd in the same week. I thought that this year couldn't get any more awesome. A new variation and a grail? What more could I ask for? Well, as it turns out, ANOTHER grail!

Two weeks ago, this gal was posted for offers on the Rare Model Horse Sales group over on Facebook. I had bought the appaloosa from the same seller and I was determined to get this one as well. Last Friday, I had the highest offer and achieved that goal! A little over a week later, she has made it home.

"Queen Dorothy Margaret", named after my grandmothers, who both loved the color purple

Like her appaloosa "sister", she also has her original box and the brush & comb still in the bag. I mentioned back when I posted about the chestnut flockie variations that I also wanted to talk about the purple variations I've seen. Now that I have one in hand, I'm more comfortable doing that!

The example that I have looks to be pretty typical- purple rocker, lavender body color, darker purple mane and tail, and pink-ish purple hooves. The saddle and reins are a dark purple color, and there is no saddle pad. Eyes are blue.

There are a few notable differences that I've seen in the reference photos I've collected over the years. Sometimes, the hooves will be a shade that is closer to pink than purple, in some cases it may be the same pink used on the other unrealistic rocker SR. Sometimes, the color of the mane and tail will be lighter than the body and looks to be more of a pink than a purple color. The original advertisement photo for the SR shows a pink mane and tail and darker purple or black hooves (it is hard to tell in the scan). It is notable that this pink is not the same as the hot pink used on the White/Pink specials on any copy I've seen.

There is one curious case that I've seen, which based on another model in the photo I can only assume is a restoration, hobbyist custom, or was a custom order from Riegseckers. This particular individual has dark purple flocking, the pink rocker and tack that looks like it's from the White/Pink SR, thick/long light pink mane and tail, brown eyes, and black hooves.

Here's a photo of my newly arranged cabinet!

See, I left room for more! Ha ha! :D
