The Breyer Wixom Mold - My Opinions!

Periodically, I'd like to do a series where I take a look at a specific mold and give my opinions on it and its releases!

Several of my Wixoms, photo taken in early 2018. I have since added 3 others!

Today, we'll start with this gal! I was not a huge fan of her for a long time. I had a few of them, and a couple on my wish list, but I wasn't all that serious about conga-ing her. My first Wixom was an original Cedarfarm Wixom, which I got as a gift from someone in my family, probably around the time she was released. I no longer own her, unfortunately. She had a really rough matte finish which was very difficult to keep clean. She didn't make it past the Great Culling during my high school years.

I think this is the only picture I still have of her. the ASB and Stablemates are the only ones that I still own. This may have been taken around 04/05?

After CF Wixom sold, I didn't add any more until 2012. That was the year one of my favorite dealers went out of business because the owner, a delightful elderly man, passed away and his children did not want to take on the business. My parents and I were able to purchase most of the remaining Breyer stock at a discount. I was very worried about what would happen to the Breyers! As a result, I was able to keep many models that had been on my wish list, including Autumn Shimmer. Equinox arrived in 2012 as well, as a very generous gift from the Model Horse Blab "PIF" initiative. I still love them both!

I know that I didn't add Kong right away (he was available from 2010-2012). I think he was in my herd by 2013/2014? In 2014, the Midstates SR Brabant mare was introduced, and I was super excited about her! I love the roan color. My copy, however, has some pretty significant eartip rubs that I've still never gotten fixed, and thus, she has only even shown in photo competition.

Next came the 3 that aren't pictured above, after several years of not adding any new Wixoms. I wasn't originally intending to get Jake (I'm pretty picky about overo pintos), but my dad found one on clearance at TSC a few years ago. My two most recent additions were also very generous gifts from one of my local friends, this time courtesy of the Facebook "Model Horse Random Acts of Kindness" group's gifting initiative. WH Annie and the Red Roan Treasure Hunt mare are definitely shelf quality/PSQ, but they are so awesome!

I'll briefly describe each of the ones I don't own, and what I think of them!

- CF Wixom: I'm hoping to find a replacement someday with a nicer finish than my original!
- The RR Belgian Mare: I can't decide if I like her. The black hooves, while correct for show ring in real life, are my hang up with her. I like her ok otherwise...I doubt she'll be one I actively seek out. It may be one of those if I'm in the right place at the right time kind of deals.
- The Glossy prize versions of the RR: Way out of my realm of possibility and not different enough to keep my interest.
- Glossy Jake: Also rather cost prohibitive, and I'm not so "completionist" about this mold that it bothers me to not own one. I can give him a pass.
- Samhain: For some reason, my BF and I just didn't really feel all that interested in her design. I don't know if I'll want to acquire one in the future.
- Siren: Similar enough to Equinox, very expensive, and I'm not the biggest fan of bald faces. Easy pass.
- Hollywood Glamour: This is a rare example of an extremely limited run that I'd love to add someday! I am very picky about which of these I put on my wish list. I need to really love them.
- Versailles: I'm kind of ambivalent about her. Plus my cousin owns one, so if she ever decides she doesn't want her anymore, I'll have first dibs.
- Sabino Volunteer: Another one that I do like quite a bit. Not as much as some other Volunteer models, but still one that grabbed my interest.
- Largo: Very similar to CF Wixom and Kong in being another Black Wixom, not unique enough for me to find interesting.
- Demeter: I'm not a fan of the color.
- Chica Bonita: Definitely like her enough to try and get one someday!
- Puffin: Has the bald face that I'm not a fan of, and splash pinto is also not one of my favorites. I didn't enter for this one and I definitely can't afford now!
- Molly Maguire: She's awesome and I do want one!
- Belle Fleur: I have the same issue with her as with the Belgian mare, having the black hooves. I still think I lean more towards liking her, though.
- There is a new Wixom coming at some point, spotted in JAH, but I won't mention the color if you haven't gotten your copy. I haven't either! I can say I do like this upcoming release though.

That's all for now, folks! I leave you with this picture of my gorgeous Midstates Brabant!

  1. I’m not a fan of drafts & Wixom is a shelf hog but I have 2 that I love, Molly Maguire & Autumn Shimmer & a third, Samhain, to keep my Halloween conga complete.
